Shuttles

Canyon REO provides
one-stop, stress-free shuttle choices for Grand Canyon Colorado River rafters who need to get crews, gear, boats, food packs and/or vehicles from the river. You name it, we haul it. We can accomodate nearly any shuttle need. In addition to Lee’s Ferry, Diamond Creek and South Cove shuttle destinations, Canyon REO offers group shuttles to and from Phoenix or Las Vegas.

We go to great lengths to meet you and your group on time and at your preferred location to ensure a happy end to your trip. Our drivers are responsible and experienced. Canyon REO has a no smoking philosophy in any client or company vehicle and will perform a basic check (tires, fluids, belts) on your vehicle before driving.

Read the descriptions below, review the shuttle map, assess your shuttle needs, and call us to discuss which is the best option for your group.

Group Shuttle

Canyon REO’s group shuttle service transports your group and all your equipment from Flagstaff to the put-in and from the take-out back to Flagstaff. Sit back and relax in our air-conditioned van or bus and gear truck with our experienced drivers. We provide a cooler with water and soft drinks for passengers. This shuttle is included in our All-Inclusive Deluxe Package, or you can purchase this shuttle separately.

The most commonly requested routes include Flagstaff to Lee’s Ferry, Diamond Creek to Flagstaff, and Pearce Ferry to Flagstaff. We can also transport from and to South Rim, Phoenix and Las Vegas. See information below about Diamond Creek takeouts.

Half-and-Half Shuttle Service

A Half-and-Half Shuttle is a good option if you are bringing your own gear to Lee’s Ferry, and are planning on traveling back through Flagstaff after take-out. After your group launches, Canyon REO shuttles your vehicles back to Flagstaff for storage. At your take-out location (either Diamond Creek or Pearce Ferry) our van and gear truck will shuttle your gear and group back to Flagstaff to your vehicles. This saves wear and tear on your vehicles caused by Diamond Creek Road. This shuttle can be done in reverse, with a group shuttle from Flagstaff to Lee’s Ferry and a vehicle shuttle from take-out to Flagstaff. See information below about Diamond Creek takeouts.

Vehicle-only Shuttle Service (For 11+ Day River Trips)

Canyon REO is the only Grand Canyon Colorado River outfitter to offer the option of shuttling your private vehicles from Lee’s Ferry, storing them in Flagstaff, and then transporting them to your takeout location.

This may be the best choice for you if you are providing most (or all) of your river equipment. Your group drives your vehicles to Lees Ferry and leaves them in the long-term lot. After your launch, we drive your vehicles to storage in Flagstaff. On your take-out day we drive your vehicles to the take-out location. See information below about Diamond Creek takeouts.

Mojo Shuttle Service

Canyon REO owns a large car-hauling trailer used to transport vehicles from Lee's Ferry to Flagstaff, and Flagstaff to Peach Springs or South Cove. This options saves wear and tear on your vehicles, and minimizes costs by avoiding the need to hire a driver for each vehicle. Ask us if this is a cost-effective option for your trip.

Diamond Creek Takeout and the Monsoon Season

While we can deliver your vehicles to Diamond Creek, many people prefer not to have their vehicles driven to the Diamond Creek takeout, since Diamond Creek Road is 22 miles of bad road in its best condition.

Four-wheel drive or high clearance vehicles are highly recommended year-round on Diamond Creek Road. Only professionally manufactured (heavy-duty) trailers should attempt Diamond Creek Road. Light duty trailers are not recommended due to the continuous bouncing and jostling, especially when empty.

During the ‘monsoon’ season of July, August and September, thunderstorms and torrential downpours can cause flash floods and washouts on the Diamond Creek Road, trapping boats and crews. If the road washes out higher up (from Peach Springs Creek flooding) the road may be closed for 24 hours or longer. If the road washes out in the last mile, the damage will probably be repaired within hours of the washout. Although the Hualapai Tribe will customarily repair the route to the take-out in 24 hours, until the road dries out completely, soft mud, standing water and rocks make for slow driving on this already-rough road. Especially during the monsoon season, it is important to make contingency shuttle arrangements, which may include floating overnight for a take-out at Pearce Ferry the next day.

Snow can also cause the closure of Diamond Creek Road due to the condition of the road and/or ice and snow. Four-wheel drive with chains may be the only way in and out.

If Diamond Creek Road washes out, you may incur extra expenses from us, including but not limited to, fees for wear and tear on our vehicles or additional expenses for a Pearce Ferry take-out the following day. If your trip is scheduled during the monsoon or winter seasons, please call us to discuss contingency arrangements.

Hualapai Land Crossing Fees

If you opt for a Diamond Creek takeout, the Hualapai Tribe assesses land-crossing fees for all group members, vehicles and drivers. See Policy and Pricing for more information.

“Diamond Down” Motor Service Option

Canyon REO offers all our private rafting trip clients the option of motor service. We meet your trip at Diamond Creek with a motor, fuel, and transom, so that you can easily motor through the flat water section below Separation Canyon and take out at Pearce Ferry. The current in this 55 mile section of the Colorado River typically runs at about 4 mph with limited campsites. Many Colorado River private rafting trips choose this option because it lets them extend their vacation by a couple of days. In conjunction with the motor delivery, Canyon REO will re-supply food, ice and just about anything else you need to continue your journey in style. For details about this service, please see Motor Service Options, or call our office.

The Fine Print

Canyon REO is an outfitting company, providing equipment and support to make sure you have a great trip. This assumes that you and your trip participants have some outdoor experience. Whitewater rafting carries inherent risks and the Grand Canyon is an extreme climate, offering a remote and challenging wilderness experience. If your group has no previous rafting experience, please consider a guided trip through Grand Canyon with professional guides through Arizona Raft Adventures or one of the other commercial outfitters listed on the National Park Service’s Grand Canyon website.
